Superb Fairy-wrens
An Original Painting of Superb Fairy-wrens Janet Flinn Copyright
AUD$595
The wren above is the male of the species. The female and non breeding males wear a sombre brown dress.(The males are distinguished by their blue tail, whereas the females have a brown-green tail). The wrens dance and flit around grass and foliage never straying far from the family group and the safety of the dense undergrowth. Found in south and south-eastern Australia, they use grass to build neat spherical nests with a side entrance. The female incubates, but the male and family members from previous seasons help to feed and care for the young, while they are in the nest and for some time after they have fledged. |
